Accessibility

Diversity Music Community 1st endeavors to provide friendly approachable access for those who may be disengaged within society to use music as a form of expression. We partner with organisations such as the criminal justice system, schools and care homes to reach those who may be fearful or nervous about engaging in a group activity to make our music workshops a safe space.

All our tutors have years of experience working with individuals who may come from challenging backgrounds and understand the importance of communication, and openness.

Decentralisation

In the UK, the system of learning a musical instrument or engaging in musical activity has been structured in a classical way with graded examinations and milestones which have become an unspoken prerequisite to being accepted as a ‘serious’ musician. Diversity Music Community 1st aims to break down what is for some a ‘high-brow’ centralised system of access and allow those without classical training to pursue their dreams of a musical engagement or experience the benefits of music for the first time.

Equality of opportunities

Diversity Music Community 1st is an equal opportunities Community Interest Company. We are committed to diversity and inclusion. We prohibit discrimination and harassment of any kind based on race, color, sex, religion, sexual orientation, national origin, disability, genetic information, pregnancy, or any other protected characteristic.
